SOUND CHANGES IN COMPLEX WORDS 1.3 A number of sound changes occur when affixes and bases combine. The major changes are discussed in sections 1.4 to 1.8. Other sound changes affecting affixes are minor and are dealt with in discussion of the individual affixes. The following symbols are used in the discussion of such sound changes.
